Pillar 03 · Body
The hardware everything runs on.
A tired brain spends more. Always.
These aren’t fitness habits. They’re the substrate underneath every financial decision you make. A tired, under-fueled brain defaults to the most expensive option available every single time — the takeout instead of the groceries, the upgrade instead of the fix, the “I deserve this” instead of the “I’ll wait a week.”
Body is the third pillar of Wealthy Habits. It’s the part most personal finance writing skips, because it’s not technically about money. But every habit on this side of the flywheel shows up on the Money side a few weeks later, in transactions you didn’t plan and don’t remember making.
Some of what we’ll cover:
Sleep as the first lever
Eight hours in bed, even if only six of them are sleep. Sleep debt costs you more in impulse spending than almost any other single variable, and it’s the cheapest fix on the entire pillar.
Fuel before the day starts
Water before coffee. Protein at breakfast. Decisions you make on an empty tank cost more than decisions you make full — in groceries, in subscriptions, in the things you click on when you’re tired and hungry at 2pm.
Movement that survives
A walk after lunch. Not a gym routine you abandon in three weeks. The same small-habit math from the Money pillar applies here, and the compounding is on the same flywheel.
In the meantime, the Money pillar is live and writing weekly. Read the latest essays · Back to home
